Sung by Br Brother John of the Cross, CSJ
Jesus tells us in Matthew 6 and Luke 12 not to worry about our lives, not always easy in a world full of anxieties... May God help us all to live free from fear, knowing that He always gives us what we need, no matter what. (Lyrics based on the Holy Bible, RSVCE translation): Why are you anxious about your life? What you shall eat, what you shall drink, what you shall put on your body Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap And yet your Heavenly Father feeds them Are you not of more value than they? And which of you being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life? Consider the lilies of the field They neither toil nor spin Yet I tell you even Solomon in all his glory Was not arrayed like one of these But if God so clothes the grass of the field Which today is alive and tomorrow is burned Will He not much more clothe you, O men of little faith? Why are you anxious about tomorrow? "What shall we eat, what shall we drink, what shall we wear?" Your Heavenly Father knows you need them all Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness And all these shall be yours as well Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow For tomorrow will be anxious for itself Let the day's own trouble be sufficient for the day Consider the lilies, how they grow They neither toil nor spin Yet I tell you even Solomon in all his glory Was not arrayed like one of these But if God so clothes the grass of the field Which today is alive and tomorrow is gone How much more will he clothe you O men of little faith? Fear not, little flock, it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom Sell your possessions and give alms Provide yourselves with purses that do not grow old With a treasure in the heavens that does not fail For where your treasure is, there also your heart Do not be anxious Consider the lilies The lilies (3x) (For more information on the Brothers of St. John: csjohn.org)
